It boasts a unique location, nestled between the Baltic Sea and Lake Liep\u0101ja. The Trade Canal connects the lake to the sea, effectively dividing the city into two distinct areas: Old Liep\u0101ja and New Liep\u0101ja. The population of Liep\u0101ja is approximately 69,000.<\/p><p>Liep\u0101ja&#8217;s history stretches back to 1253, when a settlement called &#8222;Village of Liva&#8220; was first mentioned in historical writings. On March 18, 1625, Duke Friedrich Kettler of Courland granted Liep\u0101ja city rights. This event is celebrated by residents as the city&#8217;s founding anniversary.<\/p><p>The western part of Liep\u0101ja offers a beautiful Baltic Sea beach with soft, white sand. In contrast, the northern part, known as Karosta, is a unique fortification complex. This historic district boasts impressive architecture and holds significance not only for Latvia but also on a broader scale.<\/p><p>Liep\u0101ja has seen significant development in recent years, with improvements in infrastructure, business opportunities, and cultural events.
