HOW TO REACH STAKEHOLDERS

ABOUT LIEPAJA

Liepāja is the third-largest city in Latvia and the tenth-largest city in the Baltic States. It boasts a unique location, nestled between the Baltic Sea and Lake Liepāja. The Trade Canal connects the lake to the sea, effectively dividing the city into two distinct areas: Old Liepāja and New Liepāja. The population of Liepāja is approximately 69,000.

Liepāja’s history stretches back to 1253, when a settlement called „Village of Liva“ was first mentioned in historical writings. On March 18, 1625, Duke Friedrich Kettler of Courland granted Liepāja city rights. This event is celebrated by residents as the city’s founding anniversary.

The western part of Liepāja offers a beautiful Baltic Sea beach with soft, white sand. In contrast, the northern part, known as Karosta, is a unique fortification complex. This historic district boasts impressive architecture and holds significance not only for Latvia but also on a broader scale.

Liepāja has seen significant development in recent years, with improvements in infrastructure, business opportunities, and cultural events. As a result of these efforts, the city has been designated the European Capital of Culture for 2027.
